BRAMPTON -
Despite some "sticking points" Canadian Auto Workers union president Buzz Hargrove announced that a tentative deal had been reached between Chrysler and its workers yesterday. Contract talks with Chrysler and General Motors were continuing through the night and an agreement was struck by the start of the workday Thursday. Talks with Chrysler and GM follow last week's contract ratification with Ford, which also runs a plant in Bramalea. Current contracts with Chrysler and GM run out in September. The union began meeting with GM last week and Chrysler this week, covering a total of 22,000 workers, seeking commitments for new products and investments in Ontario assembly and parts plants, as well as attempting to stem job losses. Without giving details, Hargrove said there were several "sticking points", but he said he expected GM and Chrysler negotiators to follow Ford in reaching a deal. Ford workers agreed to a three-year deal, including a wage freeze.
