BRAMPTON - Provincial cash made available for local bridge rehabilitation has freed up $1.3 million in city funding, which means three more local streets will undergo roadwork this year.
The province’s Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative has approved $2.99 million for the City of Brampton’s bridge rehabilitation program. The city had already set aside $1.33 million of its own tax-based funds for bridge work on Queen Street, but the provincial funding now covers that project.
That means the city’s 2008 road resurfacing budget— approved at $8.98 million to resurface 71 street segments- will now include three additional streets: Kenview Boulevard from Goreway Drive to Finch Avenue, Folkstone Crescent from Clark Boulevard West to Clark Boulevard East, and Joshua Court from Jordan Boulevard to the end.
The contract to do the work was earlier awarded to Furfari Paving and construction began April 21. That contract will now be extended to include the three new street sections.
