Well some changes to the way the legislature is run have been proposed by the Ontario Liberal government. One of them is moving question period to 10:30 a.m. I have no problem with our MPPs being at work at that time but I don't think there is any reason to move question period that early.
It seems that the government might be trying to avoid accountability and trying to reduce the amount of press question period gets.
There really is no sensible reason to move the time of question period and I can only imagine what the Liberals would of accused the previous Ontario PC governments of if they had tried something like this. I'm sure the accusations would have been harsh and the press bad. But its OK to let Dalton McGuinty get away with something like this? I mean, what was wrong with the current time during the afternoon to ask questions? I see little reason as to why such a change was necessary.
I don't think there is any sensible reason to move the time of question period and don't think that moving it to such an early time enhances our democracy or gets more people involved in the political process.
